My name is Ryan.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Biomechanical Engineering and have experience as a Electrical and Mechanical engineer. I'm very excited about the future of AI, specifically the intersection between AI and healthcare.

Work Experience

‎ Tatham Engineering - Electrical and Mechanical Engineer Intern (May 2022 - August 2024) Summer 2024 ➤Collaborated with the AI committee to research and develop an AI proposal writing assistant using ChatGPT for streamlining engineering documentation processes. ➤Developed electrical system single line diagrams for Caledon Ski Club. ➤Lead design for new YMCA ice rink pavillion lighting, life saftey, and electrical connections. ➤Reviewed red-line markups for a wide range of projects including sewage pumping stations, street lighting, indoor lighting, EV chargers, and more. Summer 2023 ➤Primary designer for indoor lighting and electrical layouts in a new 10,000 square feet Tatham office building in Barrie using AutoCAD. ➤Determined wiring sizes for transformers and power panels in accordance with electrical codes. ➤Coordinated life safety designs, including the placement of remote heads, and ensuring all safety codes were followed. ➤Conducted electrical load calculations and created panel schedules for appliances considering voltage, circuit sizes, and demand factors. ➤Evaluated rooftop HVAC systems at a local YMCA, recording measurements and updating AutoCAD drawings for equipment sizing. ➤Conducted ERV ventilation and ASHRAE hot water demand calculations, streamlining process with Excel index and match functions. ➤Reviewed proposals and coordinated with P. Eng to finalize project scope and pricing. ➤Entrusted as the first point of contact for a P. Eng, managing emails and tasks during their absence. Summer 2022 ➤Completed an AutoCAD training course and improved skills in CAD design and drafting. ➤Demonstrated a commitment to personal and professional development through the completion of the training course. ➤Prepared CAD park layouts using York Region GIS mapping and AutoCAD. ➤Mastered AGi32 to prepare parking lot lighting layouts with mapped illuminance levels. ➤Communicated with clients and clarified scope of work for each project. ➤Designed and drew details of dimensioned duct-banks, light poles, manholes, and concrete bases for contractors. ➤Experience using AutoCAD to accurately and efficiently create circuit breaker and wiring diagrams that meet all necessary requirements. ➤Gained on-site experience in the construction process of subdivisions and electrical component integration. ➤Used CAD to determine amounts of cable and piping needed for construction. Smartprompt - Owner (December 2023 - Present) ➤Managed over 600,000 user interactions with custom GPT assistants, optimizing performance and user experience. ➤Launched multiple top trending educational AI tools on OpenAI. ➤Developed and maintained a Discord community of 2,500+ members. STEMCamp - Science and Engineering Counselor (June 2021 - August 2021) ➤Created a fun, innovative, and safe atmosphere for twenty children ages 5 to 10 years old. ➤Taught science and engineering concepts in an engaging and creative way. ➤Exercised strong leadership skills and fostered positive interactions with the campers. ➤Communicated effectively with parents in a professional and pleasant manner Metro - Bakery Clerk (Feburary 2020 - June 2021) ➤Worked as a friendly and helpful associate who packaged baked goods, decorated birthday cakes, stocked shelves, and preserved a clean workspace. ➤Maintained high standard of customer service during fast-paced work. ➤Developed strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize duties to ensure all tasks were completed during shift.

 

Design Experience

‎ Hyperloop Braking Manager (September 2023 - Present) ➤Led a team of engineers to design a pressure-based braking system for the Hyperloop vehicle. ➤Designed braking components in SolidWorks and validated their integrity using Ansys simulations. ➤Managed team dynamics and collaboration to ensure timely completion of deliverables. ➤Gave presentation infront of judges at Hyperloop Global competition overviewing the pneumatic braking system and all technical details. ➤Achieved first place in the Hyperloop Global competition, winning 5 out of 9 awards. Baja SAE Team (September 2022 - April 2024) ➤Engineered aluminum front and rear firewall systems for the Baja off-road vehicle, meeting SAE safety standards. ➤Gained hands-on experience using machine tools such as air cutters, grinders, and jigs in the machine shop. ➤Worked on weight optimization for critical components, ensuring durability and performance. Custom Edger Gardening Tool for Prosthetic User (Janurary 2024 - May 2024) ➤Designed and prototyped a custom edger gardening tool for a prosthetic user using 3D modeling software. ➤Conducted testing and iterated designs based on user feedback to ensure ease of use and functionality. ➤Finalized design and was able to deliver to client. Gearbox Design for Hill Climb and Speed Events - (Janurary 2024 - April 2024) ➤Engaged in the design of a 3D-printable gearbox for a vehicle competing in hill climb and top speed events, optimizing gear ratios for torque and speed performance. ➤Performed detailed fatigue and static analysis on AISI 4130 steel shafts, ensuring endurance for continuous operation over 5 years, factoring in corrected endurance limits and safety factors. ➤Developed a sliding gear system with a 2.14:1 ratio for hill climb and a 0.57:1 ratio for speed, balancing performance for two distinct events. ➤Redesigned gearbox for 3D printing, modifying shafts, bushings, and housing to accommodate material changes, minimizing stress concentrations and ensuring durability during testing. ➤Collaborated in a team of five, ensuring effective communication, iterative design improvements, and adherence to project timelines through regular testing and analysis. Rocket Parachute Deployment System - (Janurary 2022 - April 2022) ➤Collaborated on the design, build, and testing of a passive parachute deployment system for a model rocket, aimed at delivering medical supplies safely for MECHmania Rocketry Inc. ➤Led data collection and analysis to calculate drag force and terminal velocity, using launch data to iterate on design improvements. ➤Optimized parachute folding and deployment mechanism based on research and testing, ensuring the payload was deployed reliably at apogee during competition. ➤Applied principles of aerodynamics and stability to improve rocket flight performance, incorporating design changes like payload weight adjustment and capsule modifications to reduce drag. ➤Worked in a team to iterate on design through weekly testing cycles, successfully achieving two consecutive launches meeting client specifications during competition day. Tiny House for Disaster Relief (January 2021 - May 2021) ➤Collaborated with a team of 4 to design an off-grid, self-sustainable, tiny home with a budget under $100,000. ➤Conducted in-depth research on sustainable building materials and evaluated their cost effectiveness, durability, and environmental impact. ➤Utilized SolidWorks for detailed 3D modeling of the tiny home, incorporated material specific properties to conduct accurate stress simulation tests. The final SolidWorks model contained over 100 parts and over 700 meshes. ➤Incorporated sustainable materials and energy-efficient design features into the Tiny House, such as solar panels and high-efficiency appliances. ➤Compiled project findings into a comprehensive presentation that featured rendered images and detailed structural stability analyses. ➤Worked closely with a team of engineers to bring the Tiny House from concept to prototype, utilizing strong communication and collaboration skills.

I enjoy exploring various genres and composing music. Video Games: I love playing video games as a way to unwind and stay connected with friends. Sports: Badminton and volleyball are sports I actively participate in to stay fit and maintain teamwork dynamics outside of an academic environment. Cryptocurrency and Investing: I have an interest in learning about cryptocurrency markets and the technology behind them, aswell as stock markets.

 

Strengths and Weaknesses

‎ Strengths: Time Management: I’ve consistently managed demanding workloads across multiple projects, both in school and work settings. Leadership: As braking manager for the Hyperloop team and lead on AI projects, I have a proven ability to guide teams to success. Adaptability: My willingness to explore new technologies and try new things has led me to work on diverse projects, from AI to biomechanics. Weaknesses: Balancing Task Delegation: I sometimes find it challenging to evenly distribute tasks within a team, as I want to ensure that everyone has a fair workload while considering their strengths. I’m working on improving my ability to delegate more effectively by clearly assessing team members skills better. Memorization Heavy Courses: While I enjoy problem-solving, courses requiring heavy memorization aren’t my favorite. I’ve been improving by finding study methods that work for me. Group Speaking: I often get more nervous and struggle when talking to large audiences, but it is a skill I am working on by putting myself in more large group situations.

Collaboration and Leadership: I do well in both leading and supporting roles, ensuring team members ideas are incorporated while moving towards achieving project goals. Problem-solving Mindset: Whether it’s mechanical systems, AI development, or prosthetics, I’m always looking for innovative solutions to complex problems. AI Integration: I can contribute a unique skill set in AI, having developed custom AI tools that can automate and optimize engineering processes. Future Career Goals Over the next 5-10 years, I want to dive into the world where AI meets biomechanics. My passion lies in creating smarter biomedical devices that improve people's lives in practical ways. I see myself working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment where innovation is key, constantly finding new ways to blend engineering, biology, and AI. I hope to make a real difference in healthcare and pushing the limits of what’s possible with technology.
